Join CBT Australia and international author, Raymond Chip Tafrate, Ph.D., for fast-paced, interactive, virtual learning sessions that will provide you with the foundational knowledge and tools to engage challenging cases. The most efficient way to develop new skills is through practice -- learning by doing. Therefore, this workshop highly interactive, incorporating structured learning activities including case examples, audio/video-recorded work samples, small group exercises, and “real”-plays. Class sizes are limited to allow for practice opportunities in a virtual learning environment. The goal is for you to be able to transfer and incorporate newly learned knowledge and skills into your real-world interactions.
Across a broad range of care settings, being able to successfully engage and harness clients’ own motivations for making important life changes is a key ingredient for success. In this session, you will become familiar with the basic theory of motivational interviewing (MI), the skills for fostering an effective therapeutic alliance at the very first meeting, and practice ways of responding effectively to challenging client statements. Emphasis will be placed on fine-tuning your ability to recognize, evoke, and respond to client “change language,” an essential skill for fostering awareness and motivation throughout the treatment process. In this workshop, you will be progressively guided to improve your skills for engaging challenging cases from basic to more advanced levels.
